Review Guidelines

April 30, 2025 by Corporal House

We believe that honest reviews help create a positive, transparent, and trustworthy community. Reviews are essential in providing insights into the experiences of past guests and the quality of properties offered by hosts. To maintain a fair and respectful review process, we ask that both guests and hosts follow these guidelines:

1. Guidelines for Guests

  • Be Honest and Specific: Provide an accurate, clear, and honest description of your experience. Share specific details about the property, the host’s communication, cleanliness, amenities, location, etc.

    • Example: “The apartment was just as described, clean and well-equipped with everything we needed. The host was very responsive and gave us great local restaurant recommendations.”

  • Be Respectful: Reviews should focus on the experience itself and avoid offensive language or personal attacks. Constructive criticism is appreciated, but please keep it respectful and focused on the property or stay.

    • Example: “The check-in process was slightly confusing, but the host was very helpful and resolved the issue quickly.”

  • Follow the Community Guidelines: All reviews must adhere to our guidelines and not include any discriminatory, harassing, or illegal content. Hate speech, explicit content, or any form of abuse will result in removal of the review and possible account penalties.

  • Privacy: Respect the privacy of hosts and other guests. Do not include personal information (e.g., phone numbers, addresses) in your review unless it directly relates to your experience.

  • Rating: You will be asked to provide a rating based on:

    • Overall Experience: A general rating of your stay.

    • Accuracy of Listing: How well the listing description matched your experience.

    • Cleanliness: The condition of the property at check-in.

    • Communication: The responsiveness and helpfulness of the host.

    • Location: How convenient and desirable the property’s location was.

2. Guidelines for Hosts

  • Be Professional and Courteous: Reviews should reflect professionalism and respect for your guests. Whether the experience was positive or negative, maintain a polite and constructive tone.

    • Example: “We were happy to host [Guest Name] and glad they enjoyed the amenities! We would welcome them back anytime.”

  • Respond Promptly: If a guest leaves feedback that requires clarification, respond in a timely and respectful manner. This shows potential guests that you are an engaged and attentive host.

    • Example: “Thank you for your feedback, [Guest Name]! We appreciate your suggestions on the check-in process and will work to improve it.”

  • Stick to the Facts: When responding to a review, stick to factual information and avoid making personal attacks or defensiveness. Acknowledge any issues raised by guests in a professional manner, and explain any steps you’ve taken or plan to take.

    • Example: “We apologize that the Wi-Fi didn’t work during your stay. We’ve already contacted the provider and are working on a solution.”

  • Privacy and Respect: Do not include personal details about the guest in your responses (e.g., names, travel details, or any private matters) unless it directly relates to the review. Respect guests’ privacy at all times.

  • No Discriminatory Comments: Hosts should not leave reviews that are discriminatory or biased based on race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic. Any review that violates this will be removed.

3. Content Restrictions

Both guests and hosts must refrain from including the following types of content in their reviews:

  • Offensive or Abusive Language: This includes hate speech, derogatory remarks, or anything that is disrespectful toward any individual or group.

  • Illegal Content: Any review that encourages or contains illegal activities is strictly prohibited.

  • Spam or Promotions: Do not use the review system to promote unrelated services or businesses.

  • Conflict of Interest: Reviews should be based solely on genuine experiences. Offering or receiving incentives to write or alter reviews is strictly prohibited.

4. Guidelines for Flagging Reviews

If you believe that a review violates the platform’s guidelines, you can flag it for moderation. To ensure fairness, reviews will be reviewed by our team based on the following criteria:

  • Violations of Guidelines (e.g., offensive language, discrimination, harassment)

  • Fake or False Reviews (e.g., reviews that are not based on an actual stay)

  • Conflicts of Interest (e.g., biased reviews or reviews left by parties with a vested interest in the property)

Flagged reviews will be assessed, and if deemed to violate the guidelines, they will be removed.

5. Removal of Reviews

We reserve the right to remove reviews that:

  • Violate our Guidelines.

  • Are determined to be fraudulent, biased, or misleading.

  • Contain harmful content such as threats or personal attacks.

6. The Impact of Reviews

  • Guests: Reviews help you choose accommodations that align with your expectations, and provide you with a sense of the host’s reliability and hospitality.

  • Hosts: Reviews play a critical role in building trust with future guests. Positive reviews can boost your listing’s visibility and attract more bookings.

7. Writing a Balanced Review

A balanced review highlights both positive and constructive feedback. While it’s important to share positive aspects, it’s also helpful to point out areas where improvements can be made.

  • Example (Balanced Review): “The apartment was great, exactly as shown in the photos! However, we did notice a small issue with the air conditioning during our stay. The host was quick to address it, though, which we really appreciated.”

Conclusion:

Reviews help shape the community on our website and are a powerful tool for both guests and hosts. By following these guidelines, you help maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere that benefits everyone. Always remember to be honest, respectful, and constructive in your feedback.

Thank you for being a valued member of our community!
